About Vanessa

"I have practically grown up here on the Cal Poly campus and am so excited to be back as a full time staff member!  I was a member of the Civic Ballet of San Luis Obispo, (performed at the PAC when it FIRST opened!), attended Arroyo Grande High School, then went off to pursue my BA at UC Berkeley (GO BEARS!!!)  After four fun-filled years of higher education learning in psychology, education and yes, football, I made the long drive out to New Hampshire to try my hand at graduate school.  After three long years, I graduated with a MA in Counseling and Expressive Arts Therapies, and became a Registered Dance/Movement Therapist.

Throughout my years in grad school and the three years following in Boston, MA, I worked in schools, hospitals, day treatment and residential settings. I am a certified pilates instructor on the side, and I was able to bring my fitness background into my work with children, teens, young adults and adults with developmental, psychiatric and physical disabilities. I have worked as a counselor at an alternative high school, as an expressive arts therapist, a rehabilitation counselor, an adventure based leader and I managed a residential facility for adults with developmental, behavioral and physical disabilities. I believe that the most functional work environment  is one that is fun, active, creative, energetic and constantly growing and improving..that is why I feel so blessed to be here at Cal Poly!  Feel free to send me an email or give me a call if you have any questions about our accommodation services.  I look forward to hearing from you!"
